The nicest thing anyone's ever done for me...
So, here I am feeling pretty bloody miserable and sorry for myself. Covid 19. They say everyone reacts to it differently but everyone I spoke to said that if you were vaccinated, the symptoms were mild. Like a cold, they said. Well, I’m here to tell you my symptoms were more on the moderate side of mild. Or, to be more accurate, on the terrible side of moderate.
This is not a comment on how bad I felt, just know that I did feel… well… bad.
I just wanted to share a little story how one friend helped me out. Oh, I got the usual heartfelt, “Hope you feel better, soon,” from most people; “Take vitamin C, D and Zinc,” from many — these are nice and appreciated. I also got a, “I didn’t get the vaccine and I feel great!” My feelings on the last one are for another post.
No, this is to tell you about my friend. I won’t embarrass her by sharing her name, but if you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you know her anyway. The phone conversation went something like this: (I’m paraphrasing because my memory closely resembles a spaghetti strainer)
Me: “Hi”
Friend: “So, if you were in the United Federation of Planets…”
(Note: My friend never says hello like a normal person.)
Friend: (cont.) “… not like a captain, but sort of mid level. What ship would you be on, in which field and why?”
Interesting. So, I went into a nice little commentary on how I would be on the Defiant in tactical if we were at war, or on the Enterprise or the like in the sciences, maybe astrometrics, if we were exploring.
Bear in mind. My friend, as far as I know, is not a Trekkie.
Me: (after much jibber jabber) Why do you ask?
Friend: I wanted to take your mind off how bad you feel right now, and I knew Star Trek would do that.”
Awwww. I swear, I almost teared up. Jesus, don’t we all need a friend like this?
